Our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course, accredited with Yoga Alliance, is at the forefront of courses delivered today. Our course integrates the ancient wisdom of yoga with today’s lifestyle, keeping it rich in tradition but totally relevant to today. We approach yoga from a medical perspective - with great focus on safety and alignment. You will learn to teach from your heart, deepen your personal practice, find great joy in sharing your love of yoga with others, and gain so much from your investment into your own health, well-being and peace of mind. Our Level 1 Teacher Training will see you develop a strong personal practice, and graduate as a confident teacher - one who teaches from the heart, with intelligence, integrity and passion. We are committed to developing strong, passionate teachers with a sound knowledge of Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Yogic philosophy and Anatomy and physiology from both a western and a traditional perspective. We develop teachers – teachers who live their yoga with a strong personal practice and commitment – not merely instructors. Whilst it is one thing to instruct (anyone can read out instructions or learn instructions off by heart!), the essence of teaching is to light the flame of knowledge and support the development of that flickering flame. We blend the essence of traditional yogic teaching with today’s contemporary lifestyle, without sacrificing any of the richness and beauty of the yoga tradition. We have partnered with the world renknown teacher and author team of Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews, from New York, to offer a unique Anatomy and Physiology course online. This means that you can study this subject in your own home at your own pace, and thus be prepared to apply this acquired knowledge to your asana and teaching practice right from day one of our Intensive in Fiji or in our 10 Month Program in Dubbo. Amy and Leslie bring anatomy to life, and present it from and experiential perspective. Rather than bones and muscles and terminology from a book, you will find yourself lying on the floor, doing some asana with your laptop nearby, and experiencing their message and thus assimilating it within. The dates for next year in Savu Savu will soon be announced. All tutorials will be scheduled in the amazing yoga space at Daku Resort, overlooking the palms and the sea. All tutorials are during school hours, making this a family friendly Yoga Teacher Training. Bring the whole family for a month that will shape your life! There will also be early morning practice, and some evenings of Satsung or Kirtan. In four weeks of eating, sleeping and breathing yoga, you will have absorbed the knowledge you need to put you in good stead to teach, or for your life in general. Training in Dubbo will take the format of one weekend workshop per month, spread over 10 months. A highlight of the Dubbo Course is BEGINNING with a SEVEN DAY RETREAT in SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA. Your training begins at your level of understanding of yoga - from a physical, mental and spiritual perspective, and we steadily build on from there, allowing you ample time to assimilate the practices into your daily life. Our 2013 Yoga Teacher Training students were being sort out in their home communities, even prior to completion of their course. They are now teaching in their home communities, spreading the message. Our style of yoga is accessible for everybody, and at every age. Our students range from two to eight nine years of age. This is what yoga is all about – reaching out to our communities and bringing yoga’s age old philosophy to a fresh new generation: body, mind and spirit. It is such a wonderful little place - and busy too - carefully giving new born babies and their families a healthy loving start in life.
Last trip, I finally got to meet Robin Lim. She such an inspiring lady - the founder of the Birthing Centre, a midwife and mother. We should never underestimate what one good little woman can do! You can read more about her on their webpage: bumisehatfoundation.org Each time we go to Bali we collect small bits and pieces to take to the Birthing Centre - soaps and shampoos for the new mums and little clothes for the newborn babes. It is often touch and go when checking in our luggage, but we haven't had to leave anything behind yet! Last time we called there, two babies came into the world, and one was immediately wrapped in a cuddly blanket we had just given. It was very humbling to see how much your donations are appreciated. So a huge thank you too all our yogis in the Central West!!! All your hard earned one and two dollar coins do add up - and we have been able to send $4000 to Bumi Sehat for the year. It has been such a huge year for me, with the Yoga Teacher Training Program happening in Dubbo, and also teaching in Warren during the second half of the year. I am so grateful to Al and Jenny, for stepping up onto their teaching mats! So proud of both of you, and so happy that we can all share the teaching between us. What Can Yoga Asanas Do For Skeletal Alignment?
By Sanjeev Patel, CYT 500 Let’s be honest; not many of us have students who enter our Yoga school and say, “I really need to practice asana because I want to improve my skeletal alignment and my posture is poor.” People with bad posture usually aren’t aware of it until somebody tells them about it. Worse yet, even if their coworkers imitate their bad posture, they still might not ever take action. For anyone, of any age, Yoga asanas can correct poor posture; but a lifetime of bad posture is much harder to correct. For this reason, people of all ages need to practice some form of Yoga posturing exercise. The Typical View of Asana Practice “It’s for women or young people who are already fit and flexible.” Firstly, there’s a style for everybody these days, even if you can’t get out of the chair. As a Yoga teacher, you have heard all of the excuses by now. Secondly, some tough guys think they don’t need to practice asana because they lift weights, drink protein shakes, eat lots of meat, and create big stiff muscles. That’s not all weight lifters, but it’s the usual response. I don’t want to get in the way of a big guy who is hell bent on blocking his arteries, but I wish some people would read. Yes, I know: A bad diet doesn’t have a warning label yet! Back to reality: It’s really nice to have women in a Yoga class, but a lot of guys aren’t getting it, and many of them have the worst posture. Some of us have necks like buzzards. So, when it’s time to eat, they have to slightly lift their face off the table and slide the plate in between. It’s a perfect fit and my dog has better posture during meals. Practicing yoga asana regularly helps people gain a level of fitness, unlike anything before, and achieve mental serenity. Many people, who practice yoga, don’t even realize the positive benefits that happen underneath their muscles in the skeletal frame. Yoga is known for having a more positive impact on joint function, as certain yoga poses strengthen the muscles by releasing fluids throughout the body. Here are some ways, for anyone to practice yoga, to improve their joint health and their overall skeletal alignment. Yoga to Strengthen Joint Supporting Muscles The isometric contractions that occur during asana practice train the smaller muscles that surround the joints to withstand more pressure, and it makes them work harder to stabilize the body properly. For example, poses that force people to balance on one leg, and change elevation, trains the supporting muscles to work in ways for strict balance and stability. The practice of daily yoga helps people improve their function and their overall daily activities. Improving Flow of Synovial Fluid Synovial fluid is a slippery liquid that occurs in the joint systems, and which allows bones to move in a smooth and painless way. Synovial fluid is in joints, such as the hips, elbows, and knees, where there is a lot movement of the bones. There are few joints in the body that do not have synovial fluid, such as sacroiliac joints on the pelvis and the discs on the back. The synovial fluid is also important for delivering oxygen and nutrients to the hyaline cartilage, which doesn’t have any source of blood supply. The poses in yoga allows the synovial fluid to reach different parts of the body, thus making the joints move more smoothly. Weight Control Oops! Did I write that? Look, I know there are so many scams out there for weight loss, but a yogic lifestyle is going to cause a practitioner to watch his or her weight. If people just ate their veggies first, they would lower their health risks and make life easier on the old skeleton. Let’s face it; extra weight is not good for your ankles, knees, or hips. For every pound of weight somebody puts on their body, it puts an additional burden on their joints. Forms of exercise, such as jumping or running is good, but the impact may add up over time, especially if I am carrying extra body weight. The joints in the body are made to support the human body as individuals carry extra pounds. So, when individuals carry the extra loads via weight gain, then they’re gradually causing more serious joint problems throughout their lives. Yoga, walking, and a healthy diet can help individuals manage weight, which is putting unnecessary pressure on their joints and inhibiting their movements. I’m not saying, yoga is a weight loss remedy, but the lifestyle might keep some extra weight at bay. With all that said, no other form of exercise can concentrate the muscles that surround the joints like yoga asana, while promoting a healthy blood flow throughout the body. © Copyright 2012 – Aura Wellness Center – Publications Division See our testimonials to find out what our graduates have to say about teaching yoga sessions and our selection of affordable yoga teacher training intensive courses. Times this by
two. We looked like school girls going off on a picnic, some of us with our sarongs tied much to tightly - showing off the figure, but barely allowing movement, let alone walking..... We were keen - arriving at the temple well ahead of the continual casual crowd of tourists that would visit throughout the day. Already there were some serious local visitors - they had come to purify, sanctify and heal. The waters are believed to have magical, curative powers and the Balinese travel from all over the island, just as they have for over a thousand years, to be cleansed. We began the bathing ritual - twelve spouts flowing with Holy water under which to douse oneself in prayer. Each spout has a separate purpose - to cure an illness, to give prosperity, and to assist with pregnancy. I skipped that one, but the rest of the group should be pregnant in no time. I also skipped the last two spouts as they are strictly reserved for local ceremonies and cremations. I am not sure how they bathe the dead - do they bring the body to the water or take the water to the body? There is a sense that anything is a possibility. Later, dressed in our second and most auspicious temple outfits, we were granted a wonderful tour of the temple. It was a place of tranquility and peace. I gingerly touched the stone - many hundreds of years old - that the Hindu God Indra had struck with his sword. Water gushed forth - the Spring of amritta - the elixir of immortality - with which he revived his forces who had been poisoned. I like to touch places that have been touched by God........and they exist more abundantly than we realise! The main temple courtyard is beautiful, with many shrines and pavilions, one for Brahma, Siva and Krishna, one for Mt. Batur, and one for Indra (Dewi Indra) which is for us all to pray at. We made our offerings - and the priest offered our prayers for us, and then it was out into the madness of the market stalls that line the road leading from the temple back to the car park.... |
